The first step to making a difference is generally the hardest. It takes that little push. Often it’s the little voice in our head that asks us to just try. POCO & JACKY is no different and their experiences down the path of high end design are simply phenomenal.
So, what does it take to create a wonderful and inspirational label. Speaking to Jacky Laishram of the label, their story divulged into one of the most inspirational chronicles I’ve ever heard.
How did you get together to start this eponymous brand?
Well, we both were living in two different cities before we started the brand. It happened very randomly with no such plans. One day we were sharing our ideas and we kind of clicked with our ideas and interest. So we thought of showcasing our collection on LFW. We believed in our instinct and applied for LFW and we got selected in first attempt. We thank our parents and friends ( to name few Sailex and Kallol Dutta) for believing in us and supporting us throughout.
Describe your journey from beginning the brand to your first runway show?
It was fun. It was more like a learning experience for us. It happened so quickly and randomly that there wasn’t much time to plan things out. We just went ahead and did whatever we had to do and just let it be. LFW being our First Big Event – every little detail has left a big impression in our mind and will live on forever. Among them all, the top three moments would be long hours through the night, getting the craftsmanship right on every design and the moment we heard family and friends cheering for us at the ramp.
I remember losing our way on the ramp (in our defense, it was really dark and nervous) *laughs* But, thanks to the models, we made it to the end of it. All in all, it was a really great experience. Would love to continue doing shows.

DEBUT AT LAKME FASHION WEEK IN 2014 – PRATHONI YENGKHOM (LEFT) AND JACKY LAISHRAM (RIGHT)
Did you run through any difficulties while creating the ensembles for the LFW show?
The only difficulty we had was preparing for the collection from two different cities. But now we have our own design studio in Delhi.
What identifies your label?
The colors, patterns, and the detailing. We try to give a new edge to Vintage clothing.
Who and What are your inspirations behind the collections you create?
Inspiration for us is everywhere; we don’t usually get inspired by a physical being. It’s more of an emotional thing. Like songs, stories, a fictional character or a culture.
What do you try to convey to your clients?
We are a brand that offers a fresh take on classics, a younger view on vintage and an underlying sense of androgyny. All of them come together to form tailored, structured garments with an immaculate finish.
How has being showcased at the Lakme Fashion Week affected your label?
It is a great platform for upcoming designers like us. We got to learn a lot and enjoyed every bit of the experience being there and living the moment. Within our team, it was meticulously planned and executed . However there were a few of impromptu decisions which worked in our favor and we were able to put out a good event and we must thank everyone at LFW for giving us the opportunity and being with us through a great transition in our career.
